Shatter Me

For my independent reading novel, I chose the first book of the series, Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. I chose this book because just by analyzing the front cover of the novel, it was intimidating. The background seemed to be dull like an unpleasant mood. It shows a picture of an eye and around the eye has little cracks to show that she is "shattered". It gives you a moment to question what this book is going to be about. Some questions that came up are, "Why is the character in the book, shattered?" or "What kind of problems in the character    has made herself shatter?" Also, above the book has an inscription of writing that says, "My touch is lethal. My touch is power." This made me to think that this character isn't any ordinary character. The character refused to say his/her touch is lethal; which means it is lethal. The character said it in a different way that his/her touch is power. I predict that this individual will have many problems with the outside world.

This novel is about a 17 year old girl named Juliette Ferrars. Literally, her touch is lethal and whoever she touches, they are to be harmed. She lives in a dystopian society with powerful people. It is a love triangle with a rebellion against the government (The Reestablishment). I am really looking forward to reading this book because I love novels about dystopias and fantasies.

Tahereh Mafi is a New York Times and USA Today best selling author. Her first book was Shatter Me and followed by that Unravel Me and Ignite Me. She has been awarded "Goodreads Choice Awards Best Young Adult Fantasy & Science Fiction".

Satire Assignment

I chose the picture below for my satire assignment. It shows situational irony because it's an action that happens opposite to what is expected. The stick man says that his wife doesn't love him as much. But in another scene, it displays the wife saying that she loves her husband but he has no ears. Since the stick man is the woman's husband, the irony is that he has no ears because he's a stick man. The purpose of this comic strip is to show how different the two characters are and the major differences between them. That's why I infer that they both broke up because of their major differences and how the pictures are arranged. This can also relate to the reality. Despite two people loving each other, they can break up due to the circumstances they live with.
