For my independent reading novel, I chose the first book of the series, Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. I chose this book because just by analyzing the front cover of the novel, it was intimidating. The background seemed to be dull like an unpleasant mood. It shows a picture of an eye and around the eye has little cracks to show that she is "shattered". It gives you a moment to question what this book is going to be about. Some questions that came up are, "Why is the character in the book, shattered?" or "What kind of problems in the character has made herself shatter?" Also, above the book has an inscription of writing that says, "
This novel is about a 17 year old girl named Juliette Ferrars. Literally, her touch is lethal and whoever she touches, they are to be harmed. She lives in a dystopian society with powerful people. It is a love triangle with a rebellion against the government (The Reestablishment). I am really looking forward to reading this book because I love novels about dystopias and fantasies.
Tahereh Mafi is a New York Times and USA Today best selling author. Her first book was Shatter Me and followed by that Unravel Me and Ignite Me. She has been awarded "Goodreads Choice Awards Best Young Adult Fantasy & Science Fiction".
